Celebrating Excellence in Healthcare Design

Sulis Hospital Bath Wins Healthcare Category at Architecture Today Awards Celebrating 15 years of Excellence.

There is a wealth of evidence to suggest that a well-designed hospital environment can improve recovery times and contribute to better outcomes for patients while providing a more enjoyable workplace for medical staff.

Designed by Foster + Partners, Sulis Hospital Bath is a quietly revolutionary building which incorporates biophilic design to enhance wellbeing and improve recovery times for patients. The hospital is set in the picturesque Somerset countryside, on the outskirts of Bath.

Originally commissioned in 2009, the hospital has been delivering a holistic approach to healthcare for over 15 years. In 2021, it was bought by the Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust. This acquisition has grown the hospital’s services, increasing capacity at the facility for both NHS and private patients.

The hospital has a history of winning awards, including the BCI Award for Best Building Project (£3m - £50m), the Building Better Healthcare Award for Best Hospital Design and the RIBA Award for the South West.

'The building, and its relationship to its landscape, have been well thought through to produce an environment that is flexible, efficient, welcoming and calm. Fifteen years on, this innovative building still sets high standards for the sector as a whole,' said the Architecture Today Awards Judges.
