Endoscopy Unit maintains JAG accreditation for high quality care.
Sulis Hospital Bath’s endoscopy suite has been accredited with JAG recognition following an inspection from the Royal College of Surgeons’ advisory group.
Our endoscopy department is responsible for providing endoscopic diagnostic examinations and therapeutic treatments through a variety of procedures such as a colonoscopy, gastroscopy, and flexible sigmoidoscopy.
The unit prides itself on providing high quality patient care from a highly skilled team of Gastroenterologists, Surgeons and Nurse Endoscopists, which is underpinned by the hospital’s ward nursing staff, technicians, and clerical staff.
Successfully, the team has formally been recognised for their efforts and awarded JAG accreditation for the second successive 5-year period. This will be routinely reviewed every six months to ensure quality measures and best practices is upheld.
Jennifer Anstey, Head of Nursing and AHPs at Sulis Hospital Bath praised the team for their commitment to high standards and determination to ensure our patients receive the best possible care and experience.
“We are delighted that we have achieved accreditation for another 5-year period. The assessment, which is managed by the Joint Advisory Group on GI Endoscopy, requires an extensive process including the submission of evidence surrounding best practice, quality of care, and also concludes with the addition of a site inspection.
Michelle Rowland our Unit Lead and her team have worked tirelessly to ensure we consistently meet the quality and standards throughout all the domains and more importantly ensure that patients within our region receive the best possible care.
A big congratulations to the hospital and to the team for achieving this accreditation. Additional gratitude to our Facilities Management team for their support with some of the routine testing and maintenance of our equipment.”
Our endoscopy theatre is equipped with some of the latest technology in order to achieve accurate diagnosis of a variety of conditions. The suite also includes onsite sterilisation washers, which supports the high standards of infection prevention the department continues to maintain.
Within the department there are semi-private bays to ensure all patients recover well before being discharged appropriately. The Endoscopy Department supports many of the hospital’s specialist units including the Gastroenterology, General Surgery, Cardiology and Urology Units.
The independent hospital is formally working in partnership with the Royal United Hospitals Trust and other acute facilities to ensure patients gain fast access to diagnostics and treatment. Recently, Sulis Hospital Bath announced that their teams had supported over 700 NHS patients as part of a project to support the region's waiting list initiatives.
