Sulis Hospital celebrates three years of being part of the NHS family
Sulis Hospital is proud to celebrate three years of being part of the RUH Bath NHS Foundation Trust. In that time, we have earned a reputation for excellence, financial growth, staff satisfaction, and outstanding patient-centred care.
Pioneering a new way of thinking in healthcare
As one of the UK’s first independent hospitals where 100% of its shares are owned by an NHS Trust, we are proud to pioneer a new way of thinking in healthcare that can benefit all. Provisional results for the financial year ending March 2024 (subject to audit), indicate that Sulis Hospital achieved outstanding financial results, with a 32% year-on-year increase in revenue, allowing surplus funds to be fed back into the Trust.
Sulis Hospital continues to grow and develop as a centre for excellence
We take pride in delivering the highest standards of skills and care to benefit all patients at Sulis Hospital Bath. Our commitment extends to both private and NHS patients, supporting the hospital's ongoing development. This dedication is reinforced by our excellent patient feedback, staff surveys and engagement, and our accreditations.
Most recently, the opening of the Sulis Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) is set to strengthen our reputation as a regional hub of excellence. Additionally, our achievements in same-day joint surgery, initially in hip and knees and now in total shoulder replacements contribute to our growing significance.
The recruitment push ahead of the opening of the new £25m Sulis Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SEOC) later this year is part of our commitment to increase capacity and improve access for NHS patients to high-quality year-round elective orthopaedic care.
The hospital’s innovative architecture and design have continued to improve patient experience and comfort. It has also provided a blueprint for other hospitals, with Foster and Partners’ work informing many global healthcare projects, such as the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital, Maggie’s Manchester, Cleveland Clinic and the Pavilion for the University of Pennsylvania Health System.
We’re committed to ‘Getting It Right First Time’
We’ve recently received accreditation from NHS England’s Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT) programme in collaboration with the Royal College of Surgeons of England. We were the first NHS-owned independent hospital and one of 16 NHS surgical hubs nationally to be awarded this accreditation. We have also achieved accreditation with JAG, NJR and CQC.
Our priority is to ensure that each and every patient receives the highest quality of care. Our success is not only measured in financial terms but also in our dedication to providing exceptional healthcare.
Looking to the future
After three successful years, we’re also maintaining a future focus. With SEOC on the horizon, momentum is building; we are excited to expand our services, team, and capacity. We continue to prioritise patient-centred care through significant investments in digital transformation projects. These initiatives are designed to improve patient access and experience, ensuring that Sulis Hospital remains at the forefront of healthcare innovation.
Our focus and readiness for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead remains steadfast. Ongoing investment in the business, coupled with our robust resources, infrastructure, and dedicated team, place us in a position to retain our reputation as a leading independent hospital, while our connection with the RUH allows us to continue giving back to the NHS.
