Sulis Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SEOC) Opens December 2024

Join us and give the care you’ve always wanted to give

Sulis Hospital stands as a sister hospital to the Royal United Hospital Bath and is an integral part of our regional healthcare family. We are one of the first independent hospitals to be owned by an NHS Trust.

We're significantly expanding our facilities with a brand new £25m wing at Sulis Hospital due to open later this year. The purpose is to provide improved access for NHS patients; this is in addition to our private healthcare provision.

Roles range from Registered Nurses to Theatre Practitioners and from Physiotherapists to Pharmacists in departments from Day Surgery to In-Patients and Radiology to Endoscopy and Hospital Administration. No matter where you join us, we have career pathways developed specifically to help you reach your goals.

With flexible working hours, excellent pay and benefits you'll love being part of the family. We are offering both full-time and part-time permanent positions and we're a real living wage accredited supporter.

Designed by the world-famous architects Foster & Partners, Sulis Hospital is recognised as one of the finest hospitals in the UK. This quietly revolutionary hospital building incorporates biophilic design to enhance well-being and improve patient recovery times. The new wing will seamlessly integrate into this thoughtful hospital design.

Sulis Hospital is set in the picturesque Somerset countryside on the edge of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the outskirts of the historic city of Bath. An elegant city full of traditional heritage, contemporary culture and green spaces surrounded by an area of outstanding natural beauty.

We have people like no other

We are calling the new wing The Sulis Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SEOC). This new centre will focus on improved access for NHS patients to high-quality year-round elective orthopaedic care.

The Sulis Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SEOC) will care for patients from across BaNES, Swindon, Wiltshire and the wider region on behalf of The Royal United Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The centre will include two additional modular theatres, additional inpatient beds, additional day surgery pods and the conversion of two existing theatres to laminar flow.

Working with Sulis Hospital means taking pride in your work and delivering the highest quality care. We’ll support your ongoing learning in an environment that follows best practices, ensuring you’re well-equipped to make a difference.

Sulis is recognised for its compassionate leadership and forward-thinking progressive culture. In a recent staff survey over 74% of staff recommended Sulis as a great place to work.

Our clinician-to-patient ratio is among the best in the UK giving you increased patient interaction time. Our roles are varied and interesting allowing you to learn from experts and be empowered to achieve more in your career and more for your patients.

Investment in you and your expertise

Everything you need to thrive is within reach so get in touch. The brand new centre is due to open in December of this year with interviews taking place between now and September and offers of employment late summer onwards.

Centre of Excellence for Orthopaedics

Sulis Hospital, a Centre of Excellence for Orthopaedics, stands at the forefront of innovation in the region. As pioneers in the field, we proudly introduced same-day hip and knee joint replacement surgery, obviating the necessity for overnight stays. Our commitment to progress extends beyond surgical milestones; it encompasses a relentless pursuit of cutting-edge medical advancements and the continuous improvement of our practices.

As the first hospital in Bath to embrace the groundbreaking robotic-assisted technology, we have elevated hip and knee surgeries to the gold standard. The Stryker Mako robotic arm assists our skilled surgeons, ensuring unparalleled alignment and precision during procedures. The result? Swift recovery and lower post-operative discomfort. Patients regain their active lifestyles sooner.

Sulis is participating in Worldwide Clinical Research studies for Regeneten, a biological surgery that utilises biomechanics and biology to heal rotator cuff tears in the shoulder. Additionally, Sulis is part of the visiting surgeon programme for Advanced Shoulder Surgery, which underscores our commitment to delivering pioneering orthopaedic procedures for best patient care.

Sulis is not an acute hospital with an emergency department; therefore, safeguards elective surgeries from disruptions caused by surges in emergency admissions. Sulis operates as a stand-alone hospital, assisting The Royal United Hospital Bath and the region in ensuring provision for elective orthopaedic surgery, unaffected by bed pressures experienced at large acute hospitals.

Clinical Standards that only get higher

Quality and safety are at the heart of all we do. We have clear governance processes led by the Head of Nursing and Allied Health Professionals with the Clinical Chairman and Hospital Director.

Sulis Hospital has achieved accreditation as an elective surgical hub through NHS England's Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT) scheme and is rated Outstanding for Caring and Good Overall by the Care Quality Commission.

"One of the things I love about working at Sulis is the belief in our people and their career progression. The team and environment are second to none. It’s like a family."
