Centre of Excellence for Orthopaedics

Sulis Hospital is a leading Centre of Excellence for Orthopaedics, pioneering innovations in the region. We introduced same-day hip and knee replacement surgeries, reducing the need for overnight stays and improving recovery times. Our commitment to progress includes adopting cutting-edge medical advancements and continuously improving our practices.

Advanced Surgical Technology

As the first hospital in Bath to utilise robotic-assisted technology, we have set the gold standard for hip and knee surgeries. The Stryker Mako robotic arm aids our skilled surgeons, ensuring exceptional alignment and precision during procedures. This results in faster recovery times and reduced post-operative discomfort, allowing patients to return to their active lifestyles sooner.

Innovative Research and Programmes

Sulis Hospital is involved in global clinical research studies for Regeneten, a biological surgery that uses biomechanics and biology to heal rotator cuff tears in the shoulder. We also participate in the visiting surgeon programme for Advanced Shoulder Surgery, highlighting our dedication to pioneering orthopaedic procedures.

Clinical Standards that only get higher

Quality and safety are at the heart of all we do. We have clear governance processes led by the Head of Nursing and Allied Health Professionals with the Clinical Chairman and Hospital Director.

Sulis Hospital has achieved accreditation as an elective surgical hub through NHS England's Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT) scheme and is rated Outstanding for Caring and Good Overall by the Care Quality Commission.

Enhanced Recovery

We prepare patients for surgery through comprehensive medical evaluations, patient education and health optimisation. These practices provide support and planning to ensure a smooth surgical experience. By addressing these aspects we enhance recovery and improve surgical outcomes helping you feel better sooner.

Dedicated Elective Surgery Facility

As a stand-alone hospital without an emergency department, Sulis safeguards elective surgeries from disruptions caused by emergency admissions. We support The Royal United Hospital Bath and the region by ensuring the provision of elective orthopaedic surgery, unaffected by the bed pressures experienced at larger acute NHS hospitals.
