Professor Millicent Stone
Consultant Rheumatologist
Professor Stone is a Consultant Rheumatologist having trained in Ireland and Canada where she also trained as a Clinical Epidemiologist and worked as a Clinician Scientist, Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Toronto, St Michaels Hospital before moving to Bath to take up a consultant post at The Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases.
She was recruited subsequently to Guys and St Thomas’ NHS trust due to her specialist interest and training in inflammatory eye disease and Ankylosing Spondylitis. She recently completed training in entrepreneurship with an MBA in Entrepreneurship at Cambridge University where she was awarded first prize in her class for her healthcare entrepreneurship work on graduation.
Professor Stone's areas of specialist clinical interest include spondyloarthropathy, osteoporosis, back pain and inflammatory eye diseases.

Prof Stone is a Royal Society, Entrepreneur in Residence award, University of Bath and is well known for her innovations in translational sciences. Her translational research work has been presented at international meetings and has won prestigious entrepreneurial awards and has been shown to have massive savings for clinicians in NHS whilst improving patient outcomes.
Prof Stone is passionate about enabling people to live longer healthier lives and works tirelessly at the intersection of clinical care and academia to drive innovation through entrepreneurship to realise this vision.
She enjoys outdoor pursuits, running and clay pigeon shooting and quieter times reading and writing.
She has written one novel and is working on the release of a coffee table book that captures the learnings of her successful podcast; Live Longer The podcast exploring the connection between science and humanities in living longer healthier lives.
Prof Stone lives in Bath with her partner and two children. She is a Trustee of UCL based Rheumatology Discretionary Fund to help promote research in Rheumatology and an advisor to Success charity for children who survive cancer.
Prof Stone retired from NHS a few years ago to pursue her innovation in translational sciences but works with many NHS institutes and charities in the UK to bring her ideas from bench to bedside to impact the lives of patients.
