Mr Devan Thavarajan
Consultant Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon
Mr Thavarajan is a dedicated, vascular and endovascular Consultant Surgeon with the South West Vascular Network based at the Royal United Hospital, Bath.
He spent nine years developing specialist vascular experience in tertiary units across England and Scotland (Liverpool, Bath, Edinburgh and Chester) building on his initial training at the University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur.
He has extensive experience in the management of aortic aneurysms (open or keyhole), stroke prevention surgery, and limb salvage bypass. Of particular interest to him is day case varicose vein treatment including VNUS closure/laser ablation and foam sclerotherapy. He regularly trains junior surgeons in these techniques.
He is committed to high quality evidence-based, patient-centred care.

Devan dedicates most of his free time to his young family and sports. He is a keen squash and badminton player, having played competitively at state level in his younger days.

Endovenous and Endovascular surgery – minimally invasive treatment of veins and arteries, including endovenous thermal ablation and foam sclerotherapy with ultrasound guidance.
Aortic aneurysms - open or endovascular.
Devan has undertaken work on the feasibility of fascial closure technique and mechanical thrombectomy in limb ischaemia, both have led to peer review publications and presented regionally and internationally.
He enjoys teaching and training all levels of junior staff and have been on the faculty of surgical skills courses for several years
