Mr John McFarlane
Consultant Hand and Wrist Surgeon
John McFarlane is a Consultant Orthopaedic Hand and Wrist Specialist at Sulis Hospital Bath. He was appointed as a hand, wrist and general trauma surgeon at Yeovil Hospital in 2019.
After qualifying with a graduate entry Medicine degree from St Georges Hospital in London in 2006 John’s post graduate orthopaedic training was on the prestigious Oswestry training programme. In 2018 he then completed a year of sub-specialty hand and wrist Fellowship training at the QE and Royal Orthopaedic Hospitals in Birmingham. During this time he was trained in all aspects of hand and wrist elective and trauma surgery including wrist arthroscopy, small joint replacements and treatment modalities for dupuytrens disease.
He has presented both nationally and internationally on hand surgery, in particular the use of Xiapex for which he has published in the European Journal of Hand Surgery
Prior to his medical training he completed a degree in Biology and a Masters in Chemical Research.
John’s practice includes all aspects of hand and wrist and elbow surgery and he aims to develop a combined decision making process in order to provide patients with informed, successful outcomes.

Outside work John spends most of his time with his family and 3 young daughters who are all active gymnasts. In the past he ran competitively and has competed for Great Britain in the marathon. He also used to be an active member of the Territorial Army airborne infantry
