Mr Richard Sutton
Consultant General and Breast Surgeon
Mr Richard Sutton is a Consultant Breast Surgeon at Sulis Hospital Bath. He has a specialist interest in cosmetic, oncoplastic and breast reconstructive surgery.
After qualifying from St Bartholomew's Hospital, London he went on to complete his Basic and Higher Surgical training in London Deanery.
He completed his Breast Surgical Oncology training at the Royal Marsden and Charing Cross Hospitals (London) and the Royal Adelaide Hospital (Australia) as well as Breast Oncoplatic, Reconstruction and Aesthetic Training as a Clinical Fellow in St Andrews Department of Plastic Surgery, Broomfield Hospital, Chelmsford.
Richard is now the Clinical Director for the Breast Unit at the Royal United Hospital in Bath. For breast cancer surgical management, he offers treatment through breast conservation surgery, lumpectomy and mastectomy and sentinel lymph node biopsies. The multi-disciplinary team also have extensive experience with the use of pre-operative treatment of breast cancer including endocrine therapy and chemotherapy ('neoadjuvant'). His surgical skills were recognized at a national level in an article written in the Daily Mail in 2010.
Richard is actively involved with research into improving outcomes for breast cancer treatment, being the lead clinician at the RUH for a number of multi centre national research trials
Richard has an increasing commitment to surgical training at a local, regional, national and international level. He has been on the teaching faculty for a number of national courses in oncoplastic & reconstructive breast surgery. Since 2012, he has been the Director for The Speciality Skills course in Reconstructive Breast Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
