Mr Rohit Dhawan

Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon

Mr Dhawan trained at the esteemed Oswestry Orthopaedic training programme at Robert Jones Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital and University Hospitals North Midlands. His training involved handling simple and complex primary and revision lower limb arthroplasty cases referred to the tertiary care referral centre. He gained extensive experience in managing complex poly-trauma, peri-prosthetic fractures, and other long bone fractures, as well as primary and metastatic bone tumours.

After completing his training, Mr Dhawan undertook an International Lower Limb Arthroplasty and Sports Fellowship in Australia at the Melbourne Orthopaedic Group. During this fellowship, he became proficient with the Optimised Positioning System (OPS), an innovative technology for total hip replacements that considers each patient’s Spino-Pelvic alignment and other biomechanics pre-operatively. OPS uses an intra-operative positioning system to guide surgeons in optimising implant positioning.

Following this, he completed an Advanced Hip Fellowship at Southmead Hospital, Bristol, where he further honed his skills in revision hip and knee surgery and Prosthetic Joint Infections (PJI).

Additional information about Mr Rohit Dhawan

Prior to his orthopaedic training, Mr. Dhawan earned a master’s degree at University College London and the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore. His research focused on investigating the cellular interaction of metal surfaces and soft tissue cells for Intra-Osseous Transcutaneous Amputation Prostheses (ITAP).

Mr Dhawan has extensively presented at 40 international and national conferences and has published 15 articles in peer-reviewed journals, along with several book chapters. He is an active member of the Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) faculty and regularly teaches at the Royal College of Surgeons and various hospitals.

Outside of his professional life, Mr Dhawan is an avid cricket fan who enjoys leg spinning. He also likes road biking and spending time with his wife and two children. His Sundays normally involve spending time in the cricket nets with his two children in the morning and taking his dog, Rusty, out for a long walk in the afternoon. Currently, he is working on improving his grip strength and techniques to progress from a ‘beginner’ to an ‘intermediate’ climber in bouldering, finding it much more challenging than it appears on television.
